About ODE

Who We Are

The Office of Distance Education opened June 1, 1998, as a result of a year-long study by the Distance Education Task Force during 1996 and 1997. This university task force--composed of six working groups and 60 members of the Texas A&M University faculty, staff, and administration--recommended that Texas A&M establish an Office of Distance Education "to coordinate and oversee the administration, facilities, budgets and fee structure utilized at Texas A&M." What We Do

The Office of Distance Education currently works with faculty, departments, and colleges interested in developing DE courses and programs, ensures that TAMU's DE courses comply with both The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Guidelines, and works with university faculty to develop their skills in distance education delivery methods. The Office of Distance Education also does the following:

  • seeks to ensure that the university's distance education efforts, planning, and policies operate efficiently and effectively;
  • looks for ways to use distance/instructional technology to enhance resident instruction;
  • serves as a point of contact for DE initiatives on campus;
  • and works with the University administration to enhance TAMU’s infrastructure to support distance education: admissions, registration, pricing, library/student support services, and financial aid.
