Educational Technology Program
Program Description
This 39-semester hour graduate program is designed for individuals with interests in instructional design who desire to apply learning technologies to a content area or discipline in education, business, or industry. Individuals interested in pursuing this
degree need not have an undergraduate degree in education to pursue this graduate degree.
The Educational Technology Program integrates three foundation areas: Learning Theory, Systems Theory, and Educational Media. Upon completion of the program, students will be proficient in the following skill areas:
- Design: Systematically identifying instructional needs to design of instructional materials for delivery by technology in classrooms and at distant sites.
- Development: Producing instructional materials to meet specific educational objectives involving components such as computer applications, graphics, photography, audio recording, video recording, and telecommunications.
- Research/Evaluation: Planning, defining, and implementing evaluation strategies for developing projects that apply educational technology principles.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet minimum entrance requirements set by the College of Education and Texas A&M University. Satisfying the minimum criteria qualifies an applicant for consideration, but it does not guarantee admission to the EDTC program. The program faculty will review each applicant and take into consideration GRE test scores, grade point average from the last 60 hours of the applicant's undergraduate degree, recommendations, and the goal statement provided by the application in the application packet.
Degree Program and Course Requirements
The 40-semester hour requirements emphasizes development of multimedia instructional materials and techniques for effective distance education communication. The following list gives the core courses and the semester credit hours for each course (courses marked in red and with a star (*) indicates availability in web format):

Distance Education Delivery Platforms
Distance courses include a variety of instructional mediums, including web based courses and interactive network video offered at the Woodlands. Classes offered in interactive video are also available in traditional classroom format at Texas A&M. Most web-based courses include an on-site orientation which can also be viewed on-line as a video stream.
Course Examinations
The courses will all require student evaluations or examinations during the semester. The evaluations may be in the form of take-home comprehensive examinations, research projects, or semester projects. The evaluation instructions will be submitted either by traditional mail, e-mail, downloadable web sites, or facsimile, at the discretion of the instructor. The uniformity and content of all examinations will be the same whether students are on or off campus.
Final Degree Program Examination
After completing all program requirements, all M.Ed. students will be required to complete a final examination.
